Register for Ride to Stop Suicide
Who: The Regulators Chapter of the Pipe Hitters Union Motorcycle Club is proud to host the Third Annual Ride To Stop Suicide on Saturday, October 5, 2019. Proceeds of this fundraiser will go to Beacon Tree Foundation, a local nonprofit that advocates for youth up to age 21 who struggle with mental illness, suicidal thoughts and co-occurring addiction disorders.
The Ride: Ride will be approximately 100 miles starting and finishing at the Moose.
The Schedule: Registration will begin at 9:00 AM at the Powhatan Moose Lodge.
But I don’t have a motorcycle: This event is open to the public whether you ride a motorcycle or not and there is no charge to attend. We do ask however you please donate to this important cause once you enter.
The Cause: Recently, our community has suffered multiple youth suicides. To curb this alarming trend, proceeds of this fundraiser will go to Beacon Tree Foundation, a local nonprofit that advocates for youth up to age 21 who struggle with mental illness, suicidal thoughts and co-occurring addiction disorders.
Beacon Tree provides gap funding to families for mental health treatment. And in partnership with the National Institute of Mental Health, they will implement a 4-question suicide screening tool in pediatric practices in Virginia. This tool has already been used in the area to identify at-risk youth and has saved young lives. (www.beacontree.org, Beacon Tree 501 c3 Tax ID 262471438).
It’s important that we talk openly about suicide as studies have shown that it does not “give someone the idea” but instead encourages those suffering to seek help. See our programs here.
What is The Pipe Hitters Union Motorcycle Club?
It is an international brotherhood of like-minded men, who are passionate motorcycle enthusiasts, love their country and want to support community causes.
Nationally, the Club raised over $100,000 last year for multiple nonprofits that support wounded veterans, veteran suicide awareness, the homeless, domestic violence programs and members of our communities who have fallen on hard times as a result of unexpected death or illness.
Ninety percent of the membership is comprised of veterans, Department of Defense security contractors and first responders.
All branches of the Armed Services are represented within the ranks of our Club. Many of our members are currently serving their communities as police officers, sheriff’s deputies and fire fighters.
What is a Poker Run?
A poker run is an organized event where participants riding motorcycles must visit checkpoints, drawing a playing card at each one. The object is to have the best poker hand at the end of the run. Or the worst! Prizes will be given for best and worst hand along with door and raffle prizes.
