Ride to Stop Suicide 2018. And unexpected news

Anne Moss, Leslie, Casey, all Beacon Tree board members

Last year a motorcycle group called Pipehitters Union Motorcycle Club-Regulators Chapter found Beacon Tree online and asked if we were interested in a fundraiser? They liked that we supported the cause of youth suicide prevention and wanted to support someone local. What nonprofit doesn’t like when someone does a fundraiser? Especially when they do all the work. And I mean they do the work–Sponsors, prizes, food, planning etc. Best guys to work with hands down and it was a match made in heaven. I instantly took to them. Their significant others, too. Last year, the first year, they raised over $8k, and we were thrilled.

I don’t know what the take home is this year but we’ll know in a week or two. Takes time to get all the checks in etc. What was exciting is that both the Powhatan Moose Lodge and Licking Hole Creek Brewery are donating a percentage of their proceeds from sales. That was an unexpected perk.

And here is the big surprise. Licking Hole Creek Brewery wants to do a special craft beer just for this cause. They’ll add the Beacon Tree logo and the Motorcycle Club logo. This is is such exciting news.

Eight years I’ve been a mental health advocate. The last three since Charles’ death, an obsessed suicide prevention advocate as well. I want that topic on everyone’s radar. And to get this kind of support is so refreshing and gives me a feeling of such hope. It’s so original, too.

Labels will be designed soon. Stay tuned. And thank you Licking Hole Creek Brewery. The family who owns that business lost one of their own to suicide like I lost my son, Charles, to suicide. I will share with you guys when there is anything to be shared. But I’m pretty excited about this endeavor.

Thank you
