Charles loved sweets. Loved snacks. Loved little convenience stores. He would stand at that aisle and take forever to make a choice.
His earliest addiction was sugar. I can remember finding a bunch of packages of candy under his bed when he was around 8-10 years old and then sitting on the bed crying. I knew it had to be a precursor to addiction. Then I thought I could do something about it which I couldn’t.
Although he was the funniest human being I ever met, he doesn’t have many funny or lively songs.
The Rap Diary after all, was to help him deal with his feelings related to depression, anxiety, drug abuse and addiction. But this one is pretty funny. I had to choose the breaks. I did the best I could.
Those who knew Charles knows he’d perform this one with his own cadence and we don’t have the luxury of that.
Exactly how he wrote it in his notebook is at the end. So here goes.
Snacktime
A Rap diary entry by Charles Aubrey Rogers, Reezin’ the Revolutionary
Oh, pass me a Laffy Taffy and some Sour Patch Kids,
I’m about to have a snack bitch.
Cheetos, Fritos, Cool Ranch Doritos, Taco Bell burritos,
Pass me dem Skittles ‘cause you know I ’bout to eat those.
I’m suckin’ down a Frosty like blood fo mosquitoes,
Krispy Kreme donuts make me go nuts.
I’m robbin’ pepsi towtrucks just so I can get some sodas.
REFRAIN
I be all about the snacks, I be all about the snacks, I be all about the snax, I be all about the snacks.
I be snack snackin’ on some chips, snack snackin’ on some shit cuz it’s snack time bitch, it is snack time bitch!
Purple Slurpees and Hershey’s, RedBull cuz I’m thirsty.
Churros and cheese curlies.
It’s 2 o’clock in the morning, I SNACK EARLY!
The snack is back snack attack.
I’ll snack on that.
I go to the gas station and buy out the whole snack spot.
I snack a lot, this snack is hot, just ate all the snacks I bought.
Cereal packs of pop, crackin’ rocks and tater tots,
Can’t take the Mott’s cuz I am not about the applesauce.
I’d rather have some apple jacks, ice cream bunny tracks, sackfullasnax.
Utex mix ‘n match, a Twix and a half, Kit-kat fudge–some bricks of that,
RACKS ON RACKS of big fat snacks.

Not into Mott’s applesauce…hahahahahahahahaha.
I love the line about the “snackin race”. He was so bright and I love the lightness of this one! So glad you found this gem! Ox
By the way, I haven’t been able to read the accountability letter yet. Too close to home and my heart is heavy these days. I will read it, as I know it calls to me. My son mentions Charles’ passing often. He has so so many of the same struggles. Sending love, and thanks again for sharing the words of your boy. He was such an artist and we are blessed that his words live on!
I understand Sara. I do. When you are ready.
