Skull Base Brain Tumor |
Our neurosurgeons spend most of their time operating on tumors and treating disorders of the brain. This puts them among an elite group of surgeons in the United States and among the very best in Richmond. People come from all over the East Coast for treatment here. We treat malignant and benign tumors, unusual and skull based lesions, cerebrovascular (brain blood vessel) abnormalities and nerve disorders.
Comprehensive Treatment Means Patients Get Treatment in One Place
Our neuroscience team and our technology are two reasons patients come here. Our comprehensive approach is another. It means you aren't driving from one medical location to another to get the treatment you need should you need a plan that provides a combination of treatments. This combination of options includes one or any of the following from gamma knife to stereotactic surgery, interventional radiology to drug therapies, cancer care, endoscopic procedures and diagnostics.

An acoustic neuroma is a skull-based brain
tumor that effects the cranial nerves

near the ear canal

Diagnosing Acoustic Neuromas

First, we run specialized tests that differentiate acoustic neuromas from other causes of hearing problems and vertigo. As a team, our experienced surgeons work together to create a plan of action to remove the tumor and preserve a patient's facial nerve function and hearing.
We Treat Benign & Malignant Brain Tumors Including Many Rare Tumors

If you have a brain tumor, cancerous or benign, and need services from other specialties, we will coordinate your plan of care
with these physicians--improving outcomes and making the process more convenient. Having a brain tumor causes enough stress and we don't think you should have to shuttle from one location to another to add to it. Here are your
brain tumor treatment options.

Often a brain tumor, a mass of abnormal cells in the brain that can be either cancerous or benign, is located in the pituitary gland. Thanks to the transsphenoidal technique and stereotactic equipment used at our facility, today pituitary tumor removal leaves no visible scar. We also offer endoscopic procedures for pituitary and skull-based brain tumors. For metastatic tumors, we develop an appropriate treatment plan based on the patient's needs and the oncologist's input.
